June 23, 2015 — John Tefft, U.S. Ambassador to Russia visited the Republic of Tatarstan, where he had several meetings with American companies and joint ventures in the region, including Cummins Inc. On June 23, Tefft toured the Cummins KAMA plant (a joint venture between Cummins and the region’s largest local truck OEM, KAMAZ) in the town of Naberezhniye Chelny.
Cummins KAMA, which was formed in 2006 has been very successful and the plant produces 140-300 horsepower ISBe series engines used for civil on-highway applications. The plant also features many advanced manufacturing elements including state-of-the-art block machining and assembly lines. This was the first visit to Cummins KAMA by Ambassador Tefft. Cummins Kama General Manager Alexei Polyakov provided a tour and talked to Mr. Tefft about the history and values of Cummins Inc., the history of our Company in Russia and highlighted the importance of the partnership with KAMAZ. After the tour, Cummins employees attended the Ambassador’s lunch along with other American business representatives in the region where there was a wide-ranging discussion touching on issues like recent automotive market trends, emissions legislation and future perspectives of the Russian market.
