A Holset power turbine works hand-in-hand with the Holset turbocharger by driving power back through the crankshaft by extracting energy from the exhaust stream; this is known as a turbocompound system. Both radial and axial power turbines are available for a variety of heavy-duty applications.
Power Turbines - As part of a turbocompound system, it is proven in the field to improve fuel efficiency on heavy-duty engines.
Cummins Turbo Technologies was first to market with a turbocompound system in 1991 and since then the technology has been proven in the field to improve fuel efficiency by up to 5% on heavy-duty engines. In addition to fuel efficiency gains, a turbocompound system also recovers pumping losses. Cummins Turbo Technologies turbocompound systems are backed by more than 60 years of turbocharger engineering expertise and world-class technology and testing facilities. As well as heavy-duty engines, turbocompounding can be applied to medium-duty and high-horse power engines.
